Together, we celebrate growth in all of its aspects. Growth for kids, families and as a movement. This has been quite a journey fueled by love, purpose and sheer energy. We were built on the belief that we can and should do better for our kids, families, and neighborhoods. The belief that 14 percent of kids reading at grade level by third grade and 60 percent of kids living in poverty is just not acceptable. The belief that systems can fail people, but people won’t fail each other given the right conditions. The belief that a zip code should not dictate what happens for the rest of one’s life. And the belief that we all belong – and when we feel that growth is part of what happens.
We still have a Detroit with high poverty and low kindergarten readiness, but we have hope. Together, we are more than 5,800 members strong, we have eight locations and will have 11 over the coming months, we have 1,800 volunteers fueling the work, 85 partners dedicated and providing proven programming, and we have raised $2.9 million for kid success this year alone.
We pledge to do more and we are committed, with your help, to get to 24 Brilliant Detroit locations, which we believe will start fundamentally improving the chances of our children. We believe that connecting families with coordinated and continuous, high-quality programs right in the middle of their neighborhoods creates a community-wide impact over time and that this transformation happening in enough communities will change the city. Thank you to each and all of you for being on this journey, for walking alongside the heroes in neighborhoods that truly want what is best for their kids and, importantly, for believing that community can exist and when it does that is all the power we need to grow.
